Candles - Not A Modern Phenomenon

Early candles up to the 19th century were made from tallow, a product of rendering beef fat, or beeswax. They were often crudely made and not particularly decorative as they were made purely for the purposes of illumination. However since humanity has had access to more effective forms of lighting the production of candles has come a long way.

Modern candles are now more decorative than they used to be. They are made from a much wider range of materials and have a wide range of uses. Most modern candles are still made with wax, mainly paraffin wax. But it is also now possible to get candles made from more exotic materials, such as soy candles, gel candles and vegetable wax candles.

And the range of designs of modern candles is enormous. Many people practice candle making as a hobby and they are limited only by their imagination in producing all sorts of wonderful innovative designs with magnificent shapes, colors and color mixes.

And a scented candle can be wonderful

And candles are not just used for their visual appeal. The use of scented candles has risen dramatically in the last few years, using various forms of essential oils to produce wonderful scents designed to improve the ambiance of any house.

So candles are now a decoration instead of a form of lighting (except when the power goes out!). They are romantic, and can enhance any evening meal. Candles add ambiance where it is needed.
